On top of considering the two Alaskan Board of Fisheries members whose terms are up this summer, Governor Bill Walker must now also find an appointee for Robert Mumford’s seat following his resignation last week.
Executive Director Glenn Haight of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Boards Support Section said Mumford stated personal reasons as to why he resigned.
Haight: “I won’t go into great detail but he’s got some things that he wants to do with his family, Board of Fish takes up a ton of time, so it was just a decision for him.”
Alaskan statutes mandate that an appointee be identified by Governor Walker within 30 days of a board member’s resignation.
Members’ whose terms expire June 30, 2016 include the Board’s Chair Tom Kluberton of Talkeetna and Fritz Johnson of Dillingham.
Governor Walker has repeatedly voiced support for Board of Fish meetings on the Kenai Peninsula, as well as stated that he would not reappoint members against the move.
We asked if he plans to reappoint Kluberton who has previously voiced opposition to hosting Board of Fisheries meetings on the Kenai Peninsula
Gov. Walker: “I’ll look at each individual appointment as it comes.”
At last December’s meeting about changing a 2017 Board of Fisheries meeting location to the Kenai Peninsula, Johnson was one of the two members to vote in favor of that move.
