Alaska Bus Company opens on Friday, June 5, with round-trips from Homer, Soldotna, Girdwood, as well as Anchorage on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Jan Knutson of the Homer Chamber Visitor Center: “This was a new chamber member last year. They do a round-trip from Homer, south of Soldotna, then up to Girdwood, and then to Anchorage. Not straight to the airport, they don’t have a spot there, and then they do a turnaround. So, they leave Homer early in the morning, but this is such an important bus travelway that goes back and forth between Homer before stopping in Soldotna as well. “
Opening on June 5 fits the normal scheduled date that the bus company originally aimed for, unimpacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bus offers a path for folks to leave Homer at 8:00 a.m. and make it to Anchorage by 1:00 p.m. for around $80. Heading south, the bus leaves Anchorage at 2:00 p.m. and can have people in Homer by 7:00 p.m.
