Alaska Communication partners with the Boys and Girls Club of Alaska to provide upstanding youth 5 scholarships across the state.
Associate Manager for Corporate Communications Hannah Blankenship explained the “Summer of Heroes” scholarship program.
Blankenship: “And the summer of heroes part is that we are looking for heroes, young heroes who have done outsanding things in their communities and for the program we define a hero as any youth who has volunteered for a cause, raised money around a cause or inspired others to take action.”
The youth nominated are then eligible for one of five $1500 scholarships.
As we previously reported, Chance Haller of Seldovia won one of the scholarships last year.
Blankenship: “So last year in 2013 the Summer of Heroes program honored Chance Haller of Seldovia, Chance was 16 years old and since he was 14 he has been serving as a volunteer fire fighter at the Seldovia Fire Department.”
Nomination forms can be found on Alaska Communications website, at any of their stores, or at Boys and Girls Clubs and are due by July 15.
