The Alaska DMV is taking steps to create a more secure system in issuing drivers license’s and identification cards.

The central issuance process will begin in June of 2014 but will not require Alaskan residents to obtain a new license until renewing an existing license or ID at which point a temporary card will be issued that acts as an official form of identification until a new secured license is sent in the mail.

The temporary ID card is a hefty paper replica of your current ID card that will be valid for only 60 days.
