The Alaska Historical Commission will decide on November 16th whether or not it will rename a stream in the Lake and Peninsula Borough, as well as a Chugach mountain peak and a Dillingham lake.
The agenda for the meeting includes Commission approval of grant applications for the Certified Local Government program and preservation grants for the new Alaska Maritime Heritage Preservation Program. Additionally, Commission members will review two nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. Nominations include the Sitka Woman’s Club Cottage and the Wolf Creek Boatworks Historic District.
The Commission will meet in the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage on Thursday, November 16th, to hear updates on statewide historic preservation activities since the last meeting on June 6.
During the meeting, the Historical Commission will consider three Geographic Names proposals, including naming and/or renaming a stream in Lake and Peninsula Borough, a peak in Chugach State Park, and a lake in the Dillingham Census Area.
The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public in person or via Microsoft Teams. Any person or group wishing to address the Commission on grant applications, National Register nominations, or geographic name proposals is invited to participate in the public comment session starting at 10:00 a.m.
