Job seekers and employers in The Last Frontier have access to a variety of employment services through Alaska’s Job Center Network.
Alaska Job Centers have long been community and regional focal points for connecting employers and job seekers, assisting individuals with barriers to employment, and connecting Alaskans to a variety of both federal and state funded employment and training programs to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the job centers have temporarily adjusted how they connect with customers and deliver services.
Dr. Tamika Ledbetter, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor, said in a release that job centers have experience in ‘distance delivery’ due to Alaska’s large geographic area, and that their efforts were expanded even further earlier this year: “To get help to Alaskans as soon as possible and to address delays in processing, I have brought on 100 additional support staff. I know that many of the Alaskans out here have experienced long wait times. I understand that. But I want to assure you that we have put into place improved processes and we do so on a daily basis to expedite the application process.”
As Alaska continues to reopen, job opportunities are becoming increasingly available. AlaskaJobs – the department’s portal for many of its employment and training services – is available every day at jobs.alaska.gov to view job openings, post resumes, and access additional services. Job seekers and employers can also contact their nearest Alaska Job Center by dialing (877) 724-2539. Callers are routed to their nearest job center based upon their calling prefix and assisted by a local employment services technician.
