Field work in Nikiski to better understand the site for the proposed Alaska LNG Project is scheduled to ramp up during April.
Public Affairs Manager Kim Fox said they will be doing geotechnical and geophysical work.
Fox: “Starting at the end of April, Nikiski residents will start to see some crews out clearing land and making access in areas around the plant site and the clearance will be very small, so the foot print will be small, but large enough for what we call geotechnical rigs to go in and do some soil samples on site. So we’ll see I think a total, over the course of the summer, 80 different borings, or soil samples, being obtained.”
She said that crews will continue to lay seismic cables to determine soil stability as well.
Some other noticeable work is a jack up rig that will move just off shore of the Nikiski site according to Fox.
Fox: “That will be in shallow water right in our proposed Nikiski plant site, and that rig will be obtaining soil samples again to determine suitability of the site for the proposed facilities of the Alaska LNG Plant.”
The project is also continuing the mapping of parts of the Cook Inlet to determine the best route across the inlet, as well as groundwater mapping.
An open house on the project has been scheduled for April 23 from 6-8 at the Nikiski Recreation Center.
