Alaska is reporting 592 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday after more than 700 were reported on Thursday. There were no new deaths leaving the state’s death toll at 435 deaths.
Across the Kenai Peninsula, there were 24 cases reported in Homer, 15 in Seward, 14 in Anchor Point, 14 in Soldotna, 6 in Kenai, 3 in Kenai Peninsula Borough North, 2 in Sterling, and 1 in Kenai Peninsula Borough South. There also were 12 new nonresident cases reported in Alaska, of which none were identified across the Kenai Peninsula.
There are currently 165 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 12 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 177 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Twenty-three of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 14.5%.
Additionally, Providence Health and Services Alaska reports that, as of 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 6, Providence Alaska Medical Center will move to Visitation Level Red.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 509.8. For boroughs and census areas: 27 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.
61.1% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 55.4% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 47% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
