Holding training sessions and using the available conference rooms at the Alaska Regional Fire Training Center will be more expensive following Wednesday’s approval of City of Kenai Resolution 2023-03.
The City of Kenai’s current exclusive use agreement of the facility has expired, creating the opportunity and need for a new fee structure.
The resolution amends the City of Kenai’s Schedule of Rates, Charges and Fees to establish new fees for conference and training rooms at the Alaska Regional Fire Training Center.
Whole day rentals at the Alaska Regional Fire Training Center are established as greater than 4 hours and less than 12 hours.
City Manager Terry Eubank explaned the reason for the new fees;
“Since 2008, the ground floor of that facility has been under a facility management agreement with Beacon, where by they got complete total access to the ground floor, the training apparatus and the training props that are outside. Beacon is not interested in continuing that agreement under it’s current terms. So, we entered into that special use permit last meeting with them. With that they no longer wanted or have exclusive use of these rooms on the ground floor for which we are proposing fees for rental. So, what this is going to allow the city to rent those spaces out to other user groups, whether those are for-profit companies that want to provide trainings or other non-profits type companies, entities that want to provide training and it gives us the mechanisms to establish those fees for there use. We haven’t had a use for this in the past because of the agreement with Beacon, that’s no longer in place.”

The Kenai Airport Commission reviewed the new rates & fees for the use of Conference/Training Room Space at the Alaska Regional Fire Training Center, including training props, and outbuildings. The fees for the rooms are based on similar conference and classroom rentals in the area.
