Alaska Reports 1,063 New COVID-19 Cases

Alaska is dealing with over one-thousand new coronavirus cases.  The state Department of Health and Social Services reported 1,063 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday from Friday through Sunday.  That includes 1,001 resident cases and 62 nonresident cases.

 

Across the Kenai Peninsula, Homer reported 40 cases, Kenai 34, Soldotna 34, Seward 16, Sterling 10, Anchor Point 6, Nikiski 6, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 5, and Kenai Peninsula Borough North 2. There also were 62 nonresident cases including 6 reported in Kenai, 3 in Homer, and 3 in Soldotna.

 

A total of 123 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Alaska, including 12 patients who are on ventilators.  Alaska currently has just 30 adult ICU beds open statewide out of a total of 126.

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 313.5. For boroughs and census areas: 24 areas are at the high alert level, of which the Kenai Peninsula Region is one of them.

 

59.3% of Alaskans age 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 53.3% of Alaskans age 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 45.3% of the Kenai Peninsula Region is considered fully vaccinated.
