Alaska Reports 1,155 New COVID-19 Cases From Friday Through Sunday

Alaska is reporting more than one-thousand new cases of COVID-19.  The state Department of Health reported 1,155 new cases on Monday from Friday through Sunday.  That number includes 1,111 resident cases and 44 nonresident cases.

 

Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reported 27 cases, Homer 24, Seward 22, Soldotna 18, Sterling 9, Anchor Point 4, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 3, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 3, and Nikiski 2. Also, Kenai reported 3 nonresident cases and Soldotna reported 1. No new deaths were reported, leaving the state’s death toll from the pandemic at 427 residents.

 

In addition, there are near-record numbers of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The DHSS reported that Alaska tied its record for the most people hospitalized with COVID-19 at one time over the weekend with 151 hospitalized patients on Friday and on Saturday. The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients dropped to 150 on Sunday.

 

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 474. 28 boroughs and census areas are at the high alert level. 60.6% of Alaskans 12 and older have received their first vaccine dose. 54.9% of Alaskans 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 46.5% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
