The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports that there were over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases reported in the COVID data update on Monday from Friday through Sunday. Friday’s number included 1,075 cases, Saturday included 796 cases, and Sunday included 419 cases, totaling 2,290 new cases.
2,235 cases were residents of Alaska, including 64 in Soldotna, 63 in Kenai, 21 in Sterling, 15 in Homer, 7 in Kenai Peninsula Borough North, 6 in Nikiski, and 6 in Seward. In addition, there were 55 nonresident cases, including 1 reported in Homer.
Over the past three days, there were 21 new resident hospitalizations and one recent Alaska resident death. The individual who died was a male Kusilvak Census Area resident in his 50s.
There are currently 216 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 17 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 233 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Forty of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 19.1%.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 836.7, down considerably from last week. For boroughs and census areas: all 28 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.
63.4% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 61.5% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 51.1% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
