Alaska Reports 2,842 New COVID-19 Cases, 66 New Deaths And 213 Hospitalizations In Weekend Update

Alaska reported 2,842 new coronavirus cases, 213 hospitalizations and 66 new deaths in the statewide data update on Tuesday from Friday through Monday.

 

The data summary includes a large batch of COVID-related deaths. Some of these deaths occurred earlier in the year dating back to April, but the vast majority are fatalities that occurred in September and October. Ten of the deaths were recent with the remaining identified through the death certificate review process. Of the 66 deaths listed, seven deaths were listed from the Kenai Peninsula, according to the state Department of Health and Social Services. They included, A male Kenai Peninsula Borough North resident in his 60s, A female Kenai Peninsula Borough North resident in her 30s, a male Kenai resident 80 years or older, a female Kenai resident in her 60s, a female Kenai resident in her 60s, a male Seward resident 80 years or older, and a male Homer resident in his 60s.

 

Currently, there are 213 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 11 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation for a total of 224 current COVID-related hospitalizations; 28 patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 11.0%.

 

 

 

In addition, the DHSS reported a weekend total of 2,842 new cases, including 2,785 resident cases and 57 nonresident cases. Several cases were reported across the Kenai Peninsula including 86 in Soldotna, 85 in Kenai, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 23 in 2 communities, 21 in Homer, 16 in Sterling, 8 in Nikiski, 7 in Anchor Point, and 6 in Kenai Peninsula Borough South in 2 communities.

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 811.11. For boroughs and census areas: 23 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.

 

64.3% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 59.5% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 49.7% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
