Alaska Reports 727 New COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations Continue To Increase

Alaska is dealing with more than 700 new coronavirus cases.  The state Department of Health and Social Services reported 727 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, including 682 resident cases.

 

Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reported 14 cases, Soldotna 11, Homer 8, Kenai Peninsula Borough South 5, Seward 4, Sterling 4, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 3, and one in Nikiski. Additionally, there were 45 new nonresident cases, including 1 in Kenai Peninsula Borough, 1 in Seward, and 1 in Soldotna.

 

Along with the new case counts for COVID-19, Alaska is reporting an ever-growing number of COVID-related hospitalizations. Currently there are 164 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and 12 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation for a total of 176 current COVID-related hospitalizations.

 

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 500.5. For boroughs and census areas: 27 areas of the state are at the high alert level.

 

61% of Alaskans age 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 55.3% of Alaskans age 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 46.9% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are fully vaccinated.
