The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 841 new cases of COVID-19, 6 new deaths and 197 COVID-19 related hospitalizations in the Wednesday data release from the DHSS.
808 resident cases were reported in Alaska, including 13 in Homer, 11 in Seward, 7 in Kenai, 5 in Anchor Point, 5 in Soldotna, 4 in Kenai Peninsula Borough North, and 2 in Kenai Peninsula Borough South. There also were 33 new nonresident cases identified, including 2 in Seward.
There have been a total of 2,083 resident hospitalizations and 442 deaths. There also wee 24 new resident hospitalizations and five new Alaska resident and one nonresident deaths reported. The five recent resident deaths were that of a male Eagle River resident in his 60s, a male Anchorage resident in his 70s, a female Anchorage resident in her 70s, a female Anchorage resident in her 70s, a female Kenai resident in her 70s, and one nonresident death in his 70s.
There are currently 197 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 10 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation for a total of 207 current COVID-related hospitalizations. 26 are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 18%.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 565.4. For boroughs and census areas: 27 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
61.4% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received their first vaccine dose. 55.8% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 47.3% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
