The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports 877 new COVID-19 cases and 232 hospitalizations, 6 new deaths in the data update on Friday. That number includes 861 resident and 16 nonresident cases. Across the Kenai Peninsula, Kenai reported 27 new cases, Soldotna with 18, Homer with 9, Nikiski 8, Seward with 7, Kenai Peninsula Borough North 5 in 2 communities, Sterling with 5, and Kenai Peninsula Borough South with 1.
The six deaths were listed as recent, according to the state Department of Health and Social Services. They included a female Fairbanks resident in her 70s, a male Anchorage resident age 80+, a male Anchorage resident in his 70s, a male Anchorage resident in his 50s, a female Bethel Census Area resident age 80+.
There are currently 232 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 2 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation (PUI) for a total of 234 current COVID-related hospitalizations. Twenty-nine of these patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 18.7%.
The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 744.7. For boroughs and census areas: 24 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.
64.6% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received their first vaccine dose. 59.7% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 50% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
