The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 197 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, that being the largest single-day increase in cases since the onset of the pandemic. Anchorage and Fairbanks were the hardest hit areas, with 116 cases in the Municipality of Anchorage and 55 in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Two cases were reported in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
Monday’s report marked Alaska’s highest daily resident report since July. It also marked the 12th consecutive day Alaska has seen new COVID-19 cases go over the century mark.
Following this release, there are now 3,699 resident cases deemed as active-and-infectious in Alaska, with 96 being in the Kenai Peninsula.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough has spent the month of October rising in its seven day rolling average of borough-level positivity rate in testing. On October 1, it was 1.27%, rising to 1.52% the following day, 1.66% on October 3, and 1.87% in the data from October 4, which was released on Monday, October 5.
