Alaska Reports Nearly 2,800 COVID-19 Cases, 4 New Deaths And 184 Hospitalizations In Weekend Update

Alaska reported nearly 2,800 new coronavirus cases, 184 hospitalizations and 4 new deaths in the statewide data update on Monday from Friday through Sunday. The four deaths were listed as recent, according to the state Department of Health and Social Services. They included a male Northwest Arctic Borough resident in his 70s, a female Anchorage resident in her 70s, a female Anchorage resident in her 60s, and a male Anchorage resident in his 50s.

 

Currently, there are 184 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who are hospitalized and 12 additional patients who are considered persons under investigation for a total of 196 current COVID-related hospitalizations; 29 patients are on ventilators. The percentage of patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 is 15.4%.

 

 

In addition, the DHSS reported a weekend total of 2,792 new cases, including 2,752 resident cases and 40 nonresident cases. Several cases were reported across the Kenai Peninsula including 191 in Kenai, 82 in Soldotna, 23 in Homer, 21 in Sterling, 12 in Kenai Peninsula Borough North, 8 in Nikiski, 4 in Kenai Peninsula Borough South, 2 in Anchor Point, and 2 in Seward. Among the nonresident cases, Homer reported 2 cases and Soldotna reported 1 case.

 

The current statewide alert level – based on the reported number of cases per 100,000 people over the past 7 days – is high (red) at 834.54. For boroughs and census areas: 23 areas are at the high alert level, including the Kenai Peninsula Region.

 

63.9% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have received at least their first vaccine dose. 58.7% of Alaskans aged 12 and older have been fully vaccinated. 49.2% of the Kenai Peninsula Region are considered fully vaccinated.
