Erin and Bree’s law, known as the Alaska Safe Children’s Act, was passed by the Alaskan legislature yesterday.

Senator Peter Micciche said amendments were made after hours of public testimony.

Sen. Micciche(R-Soldotna): “One of them was putting off changes to parental notifications for two years, the changes to mandatory reporting for volunteers, training for volunteers, and finally the fourth change in those two amendments was putting off the cancellation of funding SAT and ACT testing funding in rural Alaska.”

Sen. Micciche said those items needed more consideration.

The Senate voted unanimously to forward the bill while Representative Tammie Wilson was the only “no” vote in the House.

Alaska Safe Children’s Act was one of Governor Bill Walker’s priorities for the legislative special session.

The bill now heads to his office for a signature.
