Alaska Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Kelly Tshibaka recently announced her intentions to challenge Lisa Murkowski in 2022. She spent her career in government and has been the Commissioner of Administration under Gov. Mike Dunleavy since January 2019.
In introducing herself to the Kenai Peninsula, Tshibaka said, “Alaska’s been a little short on opportunity the last 20 years or so. That’s about the same amount of time that Lisa Murkowski’s been in office. Actually, her dad started in office back in 1981 and there’s been a Murkowski in that seat ever since. That ties into why I’m running, you asked. Lisa Murkowski’s been a lot. She’s become like those D.C. insiders and she’s hurting our way of life. I think there’s just a fire in the heart of a lot of us Alaskans to rebuild our state. I think I’m not the only one who remembers just how great Alaska was. I want to see Alaska be the state that I grew up in again and even better than that. A lot of us Alaskans feel forgotten and we want to rebuild Alaska. I think we’re looking for a new generation kind of Alaska conservative to go to Washington D.C. to be pro second amendment, be pro life, think that America is first always and not be a pushover. That’s the kind of conservative that I am. I want to go to D.C. and I want to fight for Alaska.”
Tshibaka spoke on a number of subjects including the DREAM Act, the Judicial Branch of government, immigration, and the U.S. Senate. Candidate Tshibaka also explained to KSRM what it means to be conservative, “First, pro jobs and pro business here in Alaska. I am pro second amendment. It means I am pro life. It means that, for Alaskans, this means that I value freedom. I think that government is of the people, by the people, for the people. That means government should be smaller. Regulation should be reduced. Taxes should be lower. These are all things that are Alaska values. These are things that I grew up believing. We work for what we have. It belongs to us and we should care for our neighbors. We want freedom here in Alaska. When government grows, freedom shrinks. When government shrinks, freedom grows. Those are Alaska values. Those are America values. That’s what it means to be a conservative.”
