Alaska Unemployment Down in December

The Bureau of Labor Statistics found Alaska’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dipped in December to 6.3 percent, down from 6.5 percent in November.

 

The comparable  national rate was 5.6 percent but the unadjusted national December rate mirrored Alaska’s at 6.3 percent.

 

Generally unemployment rate peak during January and February each year.

 

The Kenai Peninsula is included in the Gulf Coast region which saw a loss in jobs from November to December  driven by season industry changes like construction, seafood processing and hospitality.

 

That loss took the Kenai Peninsula’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate from 7.1 percent in November to 7.6 percent in December which was still lower than December of 2013 which was 7.7 percent
