Alaska Unemployment Rates Looking Stable

The Alaska Department of Labor says the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rates have remained steady since 2013.

 

In June that rate increased slightly from May’s 6.7% unemployment to 6.8%.

 

The national unemployment rate in June was 5.3%.

 

As for unadjusted rates in June: 13 boroughs and census areas saw increases, one stayed flat, and it fell in 15.

 

June unemployment rates that fall are usually due to areas which rely heavily on tourism, fishing, and other seasonal industries.

 

Bristol Bay holds the lowest unemployment rate with 3.7% and the Denali Borough is second at 4.3%.

 

The Kusilvak Census Area, recently renamed from the Wade Hampton Census Area, has the highest unemployment rate of 25.7%
