Alaska Wildlife Troopers Rescue Two Near Kenai Lake

Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Soldotna were notified at just before 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4 that two hikers, who took a canoe on Kenai Lake and hiked up a mountain, reported that they were stuck in a steep ravine and unable to get off the mountain.

 

The hikers were identified as 22-year-old Noah Ergle from Florida and 23-year-old Garrick Murath from Colorado. They reported being out of food and water and did not have any supplies to stay overnight, including how the National Weather Service, at that time, predicted wet weather and high winds for the Kenai Peninsula.

 

The search and rescue efforts resulted in a Department of Public Safety Helo 3 that was launched from Anchorage to locate the two individuals. The crew had to land near the top of the mountain and hike down to their location.

 

Helo 3 returned the hikers to the Cooper Landing campground where they reported no injuries and refused medical treatment, according to the online trooper dispatch.
