Alaskan House Sends State Operating Budget to Floor Vote

The House Finance Committee finished work on its version of the state operating budget Wednesday, clearing the way for a vote on the House floor this week.

 

During their meeting Wednesday, members spent part of the time trying to understand the level of cuts proposed for the upcoming fiscal year compared to the cuts felt this year, which ends June 30.

 

The House version of the bill proposes capturing still-available reserve funds this year to help pay for costs next year or over the next few years. The initial budget also draws from different pots of money and uses fees to help with some costs.

 

If the bill is passed by the floor vote, the state operating budget then moves to the Senate. The last day of this regular 90-day legislative session is April 17.
