Alaskans have expressed significant frustration with campaign ads targeting the competition versus addressing real Alaskan issues.
We asked Sen. Mark Begich about the renowned ad addressing his riding skills.
Begich: “When it came to a snow machine which of course for the record, I rode the snowmachine, but what a ridiculous, I just, you know, c’mon lets get on and talk about whats important for Alaska lets talk about the jobs that we need to create, oil and gas industry, fisheries, lets talk about education, that’s what we should be focused on.”
According to his competition Dan Sullivan, he gave Sen. Begich an opportunity in June to keep the third party outside spending out of commercials with the Alaska Agreement.
Sullivan: “Its worked previously, it worked in a Massachusetts US senate race, we proposed almost an identical agreement to Mark Begich to keep those 3rd party millions of dollars of spending off the airways in Alaska to make room for other candidates like the Governor’s race and he rejected that.”
While many Alaskans are tired of anything to do with those candidates, few have heard of Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate Mark Fish, who said he has been left out of all of the coverage.
Fish: “But all the prime time debates including public television has excluded me, I was invited to public television but then they removed my invite. I think there are forces at work there that don’t want libertarians to be engaged in the debate because they feel it hurts their cause.”
