According to a timeline issued by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Alaska’s first allocations of vaccinations will include 35,100 of Pfizer’s vaccine and 17,900 of Moderna’s vaccine.
The vaccine shipments for Pfizer’s vaccine are expected to arrive in the middle of the month, with Moderna’s shipment expected to arrive soon-after. Those receiving vaccination will require two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Regular shipments of vaccines are expected to continue throughout 2021, according to the timeline.
Who is set to receive the vaccine doses first?
- Hospital-based front-line healthcare workers at highest risk for infection;
- Long-term care facility residents and staff;
- EMS and fire personnel providing emergency medical services;
- Community Health Aide / Practitioners;
- Individuals who are required to perform vaccinations.
According to the Alaska COVID Vaccine Task Force, there are no plans for a vaccine mandate. Their aim is to provide Alaskans with the information they need to make the right decisions about vaccinations.
