Alcohol Board Discussing Pot Regulations Today in Anchorage

A State Board may today establish the regulations which temporarily defined “public places” where marijuana cannot be smoked.

 

Marijuana regulations are currently overseen by the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which is meeting today in Anchorage. The Board introduced emergency regulations last February, which specified that marijuana may not be smoked in “a place to which the public or a substantial group of persons has access.”

 

Last November’s voter initiative handed the responsibility of marijuana regulations over to the Board, asking them to clarify the rules for commercial and retail marijuana sales and cultivation.

 

The ABC will today review an update on the timeline for drafting the rules.

 

While the ABC has been given the interim responsibility for marijuana, that will eventually be transferred to a marijuana board, consisting of five members. By noon yesterday, 89 people had applied to be on that board.
