Ostrander Records Third 3000M Steeplchase NCAA Champoinship

Allie Ostrander battled through the pack in the first half and pulled away in the final three laps of the 2019 NCAA Women’s 3000M Steeplechase final to claim her third consecutive NCAA national championship in the 3000M steeplechase.

Allie becomes the first female to race to three-straight NCAA steeplechase championships, winning in 2017, 2018 and now 2019.  Ostrander only began running the steeplechase in 2017 and has never lost a 3000M steeplechase in a major competition.

Allie battled in the pack for the first 2/3 of Saturday’s championship final.  With 2 and 1/2 laps remaining, Allie moved to the outside and moved from third to first and never looked back.  Allie extended to a near, seven second victory posting a season best, personal best and Mike A. Myers Stadium best 9:37.74.

Third time is a charm-Allie Ostrander is a three-time national champion!

Ostrander Races In  5000M Final At NCAA Championship

Back on the track after a mere 75 minute break and in near 100 degree heat, Allie Ostrander gathered the strength to attempt an unprecedented double of the 3000M steeplechase and the 5000M run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The double, on this day, proved unattainable.

Through the early laps, Allie stayed with the main pack hanging around eighth and conserving her effort.

Allie fell back to 12th with eight laps remaining.  The lead pack of eight runners broke away with five laps remaining and Allie was unable to remain in contact with the leaders.  Allie finished 16th with a time of 16:28.19

Allie entered with the fastest 5000M of the outdoor season with a 15:24.74.  The NCAA 5000M champion Dani Jones of Colorado posted a winning time of 15:50.65.

Track Note: Allie Ostrander owns the fastest time of the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track season in the 10,000M and chose not to enter the 10,000M at the national championships to concentrate on the 3000M Steeplechase.
