Allie Ostrander spent most of Sunday’s Women’s 3000M Steeplechase just off of the main pack and finished the final lap in under 1:13 to finish sixth in the first heat of the 3000M Steeplechase which proved to be fast enough to qualify to the Women’s Steeplechase Final scheduled for Thursday, June 24th.
Ostrander posted a time of 9:35.56 and will be an at-large qualifier to the 3000M Steeplechase final at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
The top five in each of the two preliminary races on Sunday automatically qualify to the finals along with the fastest, next four racers. Ostrander’s race time is the fastest of the non-automatic qualifiers.
In Ostrander’s heat, Grayson Murphy and Courtney Wayment recorded Olympic qualifying times finishing first and second; 2016 Olympic steeplechase runner Courtney Frerichs recovered from a fall to finish third in the heat. In heat two, 2016 Olympic Bronze medal winner Emma Coburn posted the fastest qualifying time of 9:21.32.
The Women’s 3000M Steeplechase final is scheduled for 7:47 p.m. Alaska Time on Thursday, June 24th.
