After an extended closure that began November 1st, Alyeska Resort is scheduled for a re-opening on Wednesday, November 23rd and the mountain opens on Thursday, November 24th.
Director of Marketing, Eric Fullerton says that most of the work was behind the scenes.
Fullerton: “There’s a lot of projects that kind of where more infrastructure upgrades. There not very sexy if you will, but more of making sure that we can improve the guest experience overall. We replaced a water main, did some structural upgrades on the bridge entering the hotel. And then we actually did some top to bottom finishing touches, like went through every single room and tuned them all up, a lot of finish work on the wood and the various common areas that we have. Kind of more like a tune up, but not so much like a major renovation. There is also a lot work on our Tramway and Tram building and then we completed the work on the Chair 6 barn, which you know caught fire last spring. So, that’s all brand new and upgraded, and everything. And all the inspections are passed.”
The snow conditions for Alyeska Resort are not as great as this time last year, but Fullerton says they are planning on some of the lifts and runs opening Thanksgiving Day.
Fullerton: “The hotel opens tomorrow, and where still at this point scheduled to open on Thursday. We’ll probably only have limited runs open, we’re not sure which ones exactly yet. Our Facebook page and website should have all those details once they are finalized. We definitely have a lot less snow to work with this year and the temperatures haven’t been favorable for making snow as much as we were able to last year. Right now we are currently making snow, as we speak, and look like the next couple of days we’ll be able to continue to do that. We’re anticipating being able to make enough with temperatures with the way the outlook is this point to be able to definitely main runs open that we need.”
Fullerton anticipates a full day of activities throughout the Resort, including the opening of the new Boretide Deli and Bar.
Fullerton: “We excited to have everyone and to celebrate Thanksgiving. The restaurants are all kind of opening back up. Tomorrow the Sitzmark opens, and then the Tram will be running for the new Boretide Deli and Bar which was the project that we did over the summer. That is a beautiful new bar that overlooks the Turnagain Arm. It’s on the other end, it’s the opposite end of where Seven Glaciers is at the top of the Tram building. And there’s a brand new bar and we serve food and it’s a full bar there too. It’s really, really great.”
