The American Legion Post 20 Twins are on a tear.
Over the past week, the Twins have rattled off four straight league wins by mercy rule, outscoring their opponents by a combined 60-13 and vaulting into third place in the Alaska Legion Baseball standings. Now 6-2 in league play and 13-5-2 overall, the Twins are just seven points behind first-place Wasilla, whom they’ll face this Saturday in a pivotal home doubleheader at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.
Their dominant stretch began Wednesday, July 2, on the road at Eagle River, where the Twins rode a one-hit shutout from Matthew Schilling and an 11-hit offensive outburst to an 11-0 win in five innings. The momentum carried into Thursday’s road trip to Anchorage, where they swept Post 4 South with a 10-0 victory in the continuation of a rain-suspended game from June 11, followed by an 18-5 win in the scheduled matchup. In both games, the offense capitalized early and often, while a committee of Twins pitchers held the Wolverines at bay.
Returning home on Monday, July 7, the Twins once again overwhelmed Eagle River, notching an 11-1 win in a league matchup and a 20-7 win in a nonleague nightcap—both ending after five innings. The team’s offensive firepower was on full display, and their pitching depth shined, with strong performances from Jack Harper, Malakai BeDunnah, and Jett Brophy throughout the week.
With their pitching staff consistently limiting runs and their offense clicking across the lineup, Post 20 has built a reputation for fast starts and early knockouts. The defense, anchored by catcher Ari Miller, has also been a steady force, limiting base-running threats and reducing errors.
The Twins now prepare for their biggest test of the season. After hosting Palmer at noon Thursday, they’ll square off against league-leading Wasilla on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Coral Seymour. The matchup could dramatically reshape the top of the standings—especially following Wasilla’s lopsided 16-3 loss to second-place Service on Monday.
Saturday’s doubleheader will also feature a special pregame ceremony honoring the 100th anniversary of American Legion Baseball and remembering the late Lance Coz, the longtime Twins coach whose legacy continues to shape the program.
With just a few weeks remaining before the postseason, the red-hot Twins are poised to challenge for a state title—and they’re doing it with authority.
