Anchorage Assembly Opposes Legislatures New Proposed Purchase

The Alaska legislature’s new proposal to purchase a former Anchorage midtown bank building was not received well by the city’s assembly.

 

On Tuesday night, Anchorage Assembly members voted seven to four supporting a non-binding resolution opposing the legislature’s proposal to buy the building at Benson and Minnesota.

 

The resolution’s sponsor, Patrick Flynn who represents Downtown, says Anchorage’s land-use plan calls for government offices to be located in the central business district.

 

Assembly member Eric Croft, who previously represented the Spenard area in the State House, joked that lawmakers might not be welcomed.

Last week the Legislative Council authorized negotiations for the purchase of the midtown building after Governor Bill Walker threatened to veto the $32 million purchase for the current 4th Avenue LIO building.
