Anna DeVolld Of Soldotna Announced As AOGA 2021 Scholarship Award Winner

The Alaska Oil and Gas Association announced that 16-year-old Anna DeVolld of Soldotna was the winner of its annual $2,500 college scholarship. She was selected for her impressive community involvement, as well as her response to the Oil and Gas Association’s essay question, which asked applicants to explain what role oil and gas will play in the future as renewable energy sources become more widely available.

 

DeVolld explains why she was recognized by the Alaska Oil and Gas Association:

“I was honored with this scholarship because I wrote an essay on the role of oil and gas, the role oil and gas will continue to play in the energy industry. Just by advancing technologies and renewable energy, oil and gas will still play a role in the energy industry as a whole. My two examples were solar power and electric vehicles. All of those technologies have advanced significantly in the past years but none of them are advanced enough to meet all of our energy and transportation needs. Whether it’s from availability or feasibility, they’re not developed enough and oil and gas is still a huge part of continuing to provide all our energy needs.”

 

DeVolld is a homeschooled eleventh grader within the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and is recognized for creating the award-winning educational program Promote Our Pollinators (POP), which provides education about the need for healthy pollinators, especially bees.

 

DeVolld gives an update on the Promote Our Pollinators program:

“POP is an environmental program that’s designed to educate our community about the importance of pollinators while providing ways to promote their population growth and inspiring the next generation to be good stewards of our natural resources. I’ve been doing that through POP booths and classroom presentations and flyers and activity books all throughout these four years. I continue to do so and I’m currently reworking my pollinator packs to hopefully help them grow better here in Alaska.”

 

DeVolld will be formally recognized at AOGA’s annual conference on January 12, 2022 in Anchorage.
