The annual State of Alaska land auction concluded last month, with 106 Alaskans winning 121 parcels comprising 729 acres only available to residents. Bidders offered $4,727,588 for land across the state in the 2024 Land Auction #496. DNR’s Division of Mining, Land, and Water received 452 total bids during the auction.
“I’m proud that my administration can help so many Alaskans realize their dreams of owning a piece of Alaska and putting down roots,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy. “The ability for the average person to get land in America and Alaska is a principle that helped build this great country and state. We will continue to do as much as we can to get land in the hands of Alaskans.”
Division staff conducted the auction online, sharing the results of the bid unsealing on the division website and video streaming on Facebook Live. “Residents buying State land creates a special connection to The Last Frontier, and the benefits extend even further since their purchase enables future lands sales for Alaskans,” said DNR Commissioner John Boyle. “DNR staff continue to make desirable land available to Alaskans through these auctions, over-the-counter sales, and with remote staking.”
Parcels that did not receive bids in the auction may be available for purchase through the Over-the-Counter land purchases program starting Nov. 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. Pages 6 and 23-25 of this brochure have more information. The division makes land available to Alaskans through several programs:
- Annual land auctions: the State offers selected lots at auction to residents
- Over-the-counter sales: Alaskans and non-residents may buy land unsold at auction as well as an inventory of other parcels
- Remote Recreational Cabin Staking: Alaska residents only may stake a parcel of land in designated areas, lease the land until DNR completes a survey and appraisal, then purchase the land at market value
- Agricultural land sales: Alaskans, corporations and non-residents may bid for parcels specifically designated for and limited to agricultural use
