The 2021 “Annual Setting of the Stones” in the Peace Garden is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13th at 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Central Peninsula Hospital. The Peace Garden is located on the southeast corner of the hospital campus, towards the Soldotna City Library.
Kathy Gensel, Central Peninsula Health Foundation Director spoke to KSRM:
“Here at the hospital, we have what we call the Peace Garden. It was actually put in before I came to the hospital, but after we had the shooting here at the hospital. The gentleman that died as a result of that shooting, his family donated money and we came up with the Peace Garden. Every year we do what we call the Setting of the Stones. Anybody can have a stone in the Peace Garden. It’s basically just a paver that’s set into the dirt and it’s got a little walking path, flowers, and plants. It’s a beautiful, peaceful area. It’s got benches where folks can sit. We do this once a year and the names that go in there, often times, it’s hospital employees that we’ve lost during the year. It could be a doctor that worked here at the hospital, volunteers, folks from the board of directors, but it can also be any community members as well.”
The staff at the Central Peninsula Hospital and Heritage Place invite the public to join in the “Annual Setting of the Stones” event in the Peace Garden. The ceremony is held to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away and will be honored with an etched stone in their name. Folks are welcome to join the ceremony in-person, in-spirit, or online via their Central Peninsula Hospital Facebook page. For those looking to contribute, contact Central Peninsula Hospital directly and ask to speak to someone about the Peace Garden.
16 stones will be put in at the ceremony this year.
