Forensic investigation has tied another attempted burglary to Jon R. Horsley, who was arrested last year after he committed a string of robberies across the Kenai Peninsula.
The new charges stem from a report of an attempted burglary in Soldotna on Oct. 15, 2023. At that time, Soldotna Police Officers responded to a local organization after the front door to the building was found kicked in and damaged. In the course of their investigation, officers were able to lift fingerprints from a window where it appeared the suspect had attempted to force the window open. Those prints were sent to the State of Alaska crime lab for analysis.
That same day, SPD identified the 35-year-old Horsley of Anchorage as a person of interest since he had already been the subject of investigations related to other burglaries in the area. The crime lab subsequently released its report identifying the fingerprints from the window as belonging to Horsley.
This only adds to the already substantial number of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief charges Horsley is currently facing.
“When this incident happened, he was in possession of two stolen vehicles at his house,” said Soldotna Police Chief Gene Meek. “This is just one more that we were able to prove up as the evidence came back and added to [Horsley’s] initial 46 charges.”
Horsley was originally taken into custody by Alaska State Troopers on Oct. 18. He was arrested for several warrants and dozens of charges stemming from a large number of cases. His charges included but were not limited to resisting arrest, two counts of first-degree vehicle theft, eight counts of second-degree theft, six counts of fraudulent use of an access device, fourth-degree misconduct involving controlled substances, third-degree assault, second-degree misconduct involving weapons, first degree fail to stop at the direction of a police officer, possession of motor vehicle theft tools, fourth-degree theft, and second-degree criminal trespass.
The initial charges against Horsley totaled 35 but have since gone up to 46, and there appear to be more in the works still, as Meek says SPD has at least one more ongoing investigation tied to Horsley.
Horsley, currently incarcerated at Wildwood Pretrial Facility, was remanded for Burglary in the second degree and Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree.
