Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

Mitigation plans have been submitted by high school administrators and approved by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District clearing the way for the start of basketball and hockey, with practices scheduled to begin on January 11th and the first contests scheduled for mid to late January.

The COVID-19 mitigation protocols are established to allow the opportunity for high school athletes to participate in indoor (basketball and hockey) sports in a healthy and safe manner.

The protocols include points of emphasis, practice requirements which include screening, designated event monitor, facilities usage, participant expectations, and equipment & area cleaning procedures.

The protocols also establish specific requirements for screening of athletes, coaches, personnel, and spectators.

Key Points Included In Protocols

…Coaches/volunteers/athletes need to complete the KPBSD COVID-19 waiver prior to participating in basketball.

…All participants and coaches MUST be masked up with appropriate face covering while arriving, during, and after practice and competitions.

…All athletes and coaches must go through a screening process before entering the facility at the start of every session.

Only persons participating in the activity will be allowed in the school gym or ice facility.

…Spectators (games) will be limited to 2 guests per athlete for each game.  Spectators will only be permitted if both KPBSD and the facility agree to having spectators.
