Construction south of Soldotna is slated to begin soon with a repaving project on the Sterling Highway.
Department of Transportation Spokeswoman Shannon McCarthy detailed the first project of the season for the Kenai Peninsula…
McCarthy: “This is the Sterling Highway milepost 114 to 135, which is resurfacing the Sterling Highway at Coho Loop Road, which is the historic milepost 114, and going to Ninilchik, which is the historic milepost 135.”
She says like last year, 2016 is set to be a busy construction season around the state, particularly across the peninsula.
Another project currently up for bid is the Kenai Spur Highway milepost 8 to 12 contract, which will repave the highway starting near Walmart, through Kenai until just past the North and South Forest intersection. That project is set to start later this summer and includes two large culvert replacements.
McCarthy says the K-Beach Road project that will install new traffic lights at the Gaswell and Ciechanski intersections isn’t set to be bid until July, scheduling it’s start for later this fall.
