The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is working on scheduling an arbitration since no official proposal has been received from the Kenai Peninsula Education or Support Associations.

Erkeneff: “The district’s proposal was rejected by KPEA and KPESA on Wednesday night and they have not submitted a formal counter proposal and we’ve been in process for several months of looking at dates for arbitration and so that process is continuing but the district has not heard anything formal from the association.”

 

She says more collective bargaining may continue between the District and the unions even if a date is set for arbitration.

 

Last Wednesday, January 13, the parties discussed the potential of a high-deductible health care plan for teachers and support staff.

 

As Erkeneff stated, the unions rejected the district’s proposal of a high deductible healthcare plan counter offer including a district costs cap of $1,500 per month/per employee.

 

The unions then verbally proposed a district cap of $1,700 per employee/per month, with employees paying 15 percent of anything over that cap, although no formal proposal was given.
