Arbitration Set for Unions, District After No Agreement Reached

Arbitration on contracts between the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and local teacher and school support staff unions has been set for June 1 and 2.

Pegge Erkeneff with the District…

Erkeneff: “The district gave a formal proposal to the association last Wednesday, on January 13, the associations caucused and made some comments about what could alternately, potentially work. So the District did respond to that today, although it wasn’t a formal proposal and since there has not been a written counter proposal to the district there’s no additional negotiating sessions scheduled.”

A two day advisory arbitration hearing will be before Arbitrator Gary Axon who was jointly selected by the District and the two Associations.

Erkeneff said previously that further negotiations can be scheduled and take place as a way to find a resolution before the arbitration date.
