The Soldotna Chamber luncheon heard from an organization aimed at piquing elementary students’ interest in Alaska’s resources through hands-on education.
Education Program Manager Beki Kelly with Alaska Resource Education said the non-profit travels throughout Alaska to bring hands on learning to students.
At this point most of the training is aimed at elementary school children however those modules and lessons can be tailored to 7th through 12th graders.
Kelly is on the Kenai Peninsula for a week to show local teachers how this interest can be taught in order to keep more of Alaska’s youth in Alaska. She said at this point she only had about eight teachers signed up but figures more will enroll after tonight’s class.
Alaska Resources Education is also always looking for volunteers and Kelly said anyone interested may visit their website.
