Katelin Richards posted the best two-day, 36-hole score in capturing her second Alaska Junior Golf State Championship recording a 161, which was the top score in both the girls and boys competition.
The 2015 Alaska Junior Golf Championships featured competition in eight age categories; area golfers held-off state-wide opponents to claim titles in four divisions and runner-up finishes in three divisions.
Peninsula golfers teamed to earn the team competition 708 to Anchorage’s 721. The team totals were calculated using results from state-wide junior golf events through the season.
Soldotna/Kenai Area Golfers
Katelin Richards with scores of 78 and 83 dominated the 14-18 girls age division and posted a total score one stroke better than boys 16-18 champion Max Dye, although Dye played from different tee boxes.
Max Dye’s 162 (80 and 82) stands as the top 36-hole score posted in the boys divisions.
Anika Richards, in the girls 11-13 division, handily earned top honors with a two-day score of 96; playing nine hole rounds for two days.
Danica Schmidt, in the girls 14–16 division, posted scores of 50 and 59 for a two-day total of 109, winning her division in a playoff.
Runner-up finishes were also achieved by Keely Sundburg in the girls 10 and under division, boy’s 10-12 Shane Sundberg and Sam Klein in the boys 9 and under division.
