An Arkansas man is facing murder charges in connection to the shooting death of a young woman in Homer.
Homer Police with assistance from the Alaska State Troopers, responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Adams Drive in Homer shortly after 4pm on October 28th.
Upon arrival, officers contacted Arturo Mondragon-Lopez, age 35 of Arkansas, outside the residence and he was immediately detained. Inside the home, officers found Brianna Hetrick, age 22 of Homer, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The Homer Police Department posted a brief report on the incident to their Facebook account on Saturday afternoon. Homer Police Chief Sergeant Jessica Poling said Mondragon-Lopez placed a 911 call himself indicating he had shot his girlfriend.
Mondragon-Lopez was arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail on a charge of Murder in the second degree.
Hetrick’s next of kin was notified and her body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
