ASAA December Board Meeting To Discuss Wrestling Schedule

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

The Alaska School Activities Association Board will hold its December ASAA Board Meeting on December 7th and 8th with the establishment of a high school wrestling schedule leading the agenda.

High school wrestling normally runs from late September through mid-December with the state championships before winter break.  Due to COVID-19 complications, the wrestling schedule was postponed in September and put on hold through November, with a scheduling decision due at the December ASAA board meeting.

The ASAA board, in November, approved calendar and start/finish dates for numerous high school sports seasons for 2020-21 including a January 4th hockey start date and a January 11th basketball start date.  Nordic Ski has an approved start date of November 16th; however, only the Anchorage School District has approved an actual season start, set for November 30th.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District currently has a halt on all extra-curricular activities for all KPBSD schools, with activities on hold until after January 1st, 2021.

ASAA Board Meeting: December 7-8, 2020

Due to COVID mitigations the ASAA Board will meet using a Zoom format and in-person public comments will not be allowed during the general meeting on Tuesday. Public comments will be allowed during the Monday meeting.

The ASAA Board meeting is a meeting in the public and not a public hearing; therefore, participation in the audience is designated for specific places on the agenda. Public comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker. Those wishing to speak should begin by stating and spelling their name. Speakers should refrain from singling out specific Board members or using inappropriate language.

Discussion is limited to members of the Board, the ASAA Staff, or those who may be called upon for information. However, prior to a vote being taken, the President may request additional input from members of the audience. The Board encourages communication with the residents of the State. Should you have specific questions regarding Board policy or actions, please feel free to email the Board at board@asaa.org
