An assault involving a gun by an intoxicated Sterling man prompted the deployment of the Alaska State Trooper Southern SWAT team on Tuesday.
Alaska State Troopers responded to a domestic violence incident at a residence in Soldotna on Mar. 4. 44-year-old Robbie West Diehl of Sterling was reported to be intoxicated when he assaulted and threatened multiple individuals at the home. It was also reported that Diehl was in possession of a firearm.
Upon arrival, troopers, with assistance from the Soldotna Police Department, found Diehl visibly drunk, aggressive, and belligerent. As officers approached, Diehl exited the residence and “aggressively advanced” toward them. Despite multiple taser deployments and the use of less-lethal force, Diehl continued to resist.
He then retreated back inside the house and barricaded himself. Southern SWAT teams were deployed to assist, and after a standoff, they were able to take Diehl into custody without incident.
Diehl was remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility. He now faces a series of charges, including third- and fourth-degree domestic violence assault, third-degree assault on a police officer, assault in the presence of a child, criminal mischief, misconduct involving weapons, and violation of conditions of release.
He was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial.
