In the November 25 meeting, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly passed an ordinance authorizing the Central Peninsula Hospital to purchase more property along Binkley Street.

There was some assembly discussion about the fiscal responsibility of the purchase.

Assembly member Stan Welles…

Welles: “While I appreciate that this money is coming out of an account that’s for plant replacement and expansion, I frankly think that this is a poor investment, that this is not the time to be looking at expansion, that that money should stay in the account for plant replacement, such as for the fluoroscopy unit that they’re currently doing. I think that we need to prepare for tight budgets.”

Welles was the only assembly member to vote against the ordinance that authorized the appropriation of $604,000 from the CPGH, Inc. Plant Replacement and Expansion Fund for the purchase of the property located at 262 N. Binkley Street.
