Assembly to Certify Borough Election Results Tuesday Night

Last week’s municipal election results for Kenai Peninsula Borough assembly members and ballot propositions will be certified at Tuesday’s meeting.

 

Assemblyman Mako Haggerty is one of two members term limited out after serving for the last six years.

Haggerty: “It was fun and challenging and a great learning experience. I believe I’m coming away, well most of the time I believe I’m coming away with more than I gave.”

 

The unofficial election results for District 9 show Willy Dunne replacing Haggerty on the assembly after garnering 490 votes, versus his competitor Dawson Slaughter who only received 379 votes. Absentee ballot votes are still being counted.

 

Seward’s Assemblywoman Sue McClure is also term limited out, her seat is slated to be taken by Brandii Holmdahl who garnered 336 votes, versus Kenn Carpenter with  281 votes.

 

District 1 Assemblyman Kelly Wolf looks to have lost his bid for reelection, only gaining 152 votes from K-Beach residents.

 

Wolf’s competitor Gary Knopp is in the lead for District 1 after gaining 226 votes but followed closely by David Wartinbee who is just 13 votes behind.

 

As for the ballot propositions: the borough-wide initiative to repeal a wintertime grocery tax is passing with 58.99% yes votes; Nikiski’s bid to create a law enforcement service area failed; and both the initiatives to expand Anchor Point’s fire service area and give Central Emergency Services $4 million in bonds passed.

 

Absentee and question ballots will be posted on the borough’s website tomorrow and certified at the meeting, finalizing the counts.

 

That meeting will begin at 6 pm in the Soldotna Borough Assembly Chambers.
