Assessments for Borough Completed, Appeal Period Open

The Kenai Peninsula borough assessment roll has been finished and mailed to applicable property owners.

Mayor Mike Navarre said not every single property in the borough is assessed each year but the department targets different areas over a five year revolving schedule.

Navarre: “Assessment notices went out March 1 and then there’s a time frame where people can informally talk with the assessing office and give them additional information if they think that their assessment is too high or too low and there can be adjustments made at that level if there’s disagreements then there’s an appeal process where the tax payer, property owner can appeal to the Board of Equalization and then there’s a hearing and a decision gets made at that point.”

The Assessing Department’s website states that questions about assessments are welcome and can often be resolved without the process of an appeal.

Otherwise, an appeal  for 2015 assessments must by filed within 30 days of the date which the assessment was mailed to the property owner.
