AST Releases Crime Statistics For Iditarod Re-Start Event

Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol (ABHP) has concluded its concentrated enforcement surrounding the Iditarod Re-Start in Willow last Sunday.

 

During the event, the Mat-Su Valley experienced a heavy influx of thousands of people from all around the world.

 

We spoke with Megan Peters with the Alaska State Troopers who told us about citation statistics from near the restart in Willow.

Peters: “During the Iditarod enforcement effort there was one misdemeanor DUI, fortunately no felony DUIs. That misdemeanor DUI actually was the result of a REDDI report, somebody called them in and we were able to turn around and pick them up pretty quickly. Also we had two drivers that were charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license. We had a total of 74 citations issued and 45 of those were for speed related offenses and nine were issued for seat belt or other occupant restraint violations.” 

 

Peters also encouraged the public to use the Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately, or REDDI, to help take potential hazards off the road.

Peters: “The cooperative effort between the concerned citizen, our public safety dispatchers, and the team of patrol troopers certainly made a huge difference in removing an impaired driver from our roadways. This does show that the REDDI system does work and Troopers will continue to encourage people to report every dangerous driver immediately.”
