Attempted Burglary In Sterling Turns Into SWAT Response

A man attempted to burglarize a house in Sterling on Friday but fled and then later barricaded himself in his own home.

 

According to the Department of Public Safety dispatch on the incident, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a disturbance at a residence in Sterling shortly after midnight on Friday, Sep. 27. 41-year-old John Corr Jr. was armed with an axe when he entered a family member’s residence, investigators said.

 

Troopers said Corr was confronted by one of the two residents upon entering the home and retreated from the property. Law enforcement later located him at his own residence in Sterling, but according to police, he refused to exit and stopped communicating with troopers.

 

AST Southern SWAT was dispatched to the scene and utilized “barricaded subject” tactics to remove Corr from the residence.

 

Corr was taken into custody and arrested for Burglary 1st degree, two counts of 3rd-degree assault, and 1st-degree criminal trespass

 

He was transported to Wildwood Correctional Center in Kenai. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
